IFLA is a member of UNESCO and is a worldwide organization created to provide librarians around the world with a forum for exchanging ideas, promoting international cooperation, research and development in all fields related to library activity and librarianship.

From a very young age I was amazed by the love of my two parents' books. My dad (the writer Ciro Alegría), read and wrote lying in bed or in his office, everything was books and reading. My mother, Dora Varona, poet and editor, supported me in my main hobby: being the librarian of the house. I signed by title, subject and author all the books that I inherited from my father and also those that we acquired during our childhood. My mother brought books from Madrid, Buenos Aires and Bogota, which we requested and marked by catalog. Finally, as a university student in Madrid, I was the librarian of the Colegio Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, the university residence where I lived. My long stay in Europe made me reach an important private library in English, French and Spanish that I now share with my students of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP), through the Library Thing computer application. My entire library is organized by the DEWEY Code. Reading Fiction and Non-Fiction, it's like thinking and feeling in another dimension, it's like living in various worlds, it's like multiplying your intelligence and your soul. Reading, as Borges said, is a form of happiness.
